Job Summary

The Estimating Engineer assists the Estimating team members by performing quantity takeoffs, attending pre-bid meetings, gathering material and subcontractor pricing, and delivering bids.

Typical Duties

  • Assist Estimators be performing detailed quantity takeoffs
  • Develop thorough knowledge of plans, specifications, and all project related documents to ensure the basis of the takeoff is accurate
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and job site visits and convey all information and photos obtained at these meetings to the Estimator
  • Solicit subcontractor and material quotes as required and maintain documentation for all good faith efforts in accordance with specifications
  • Assist estimating and bid closeouts, including compilation and review of material and subcontractor quotes, phone calls, quick calculations, etc.
  • Assist in the transition of all estimating information to operations on all successful projects
  • Assist with bid deliveries
  • Coordinate with Estimating Administration to obtain, verify, and continuously monitor project documentation to ensure correct versions are being used
  • Schedule collaboration meetings with the estimating team, especially pre-takeoff meetings, to develop an accurate takeoff plan
  • Develop and maintain good client and business partner relationships
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in takeoff calculations
  • Time management skills to meet project deadlines
  • Able to read and navigate construction plans and details
  • Recognize positive safety habits and practices by creating bids that allow for implementation of best practices that drive safety and safety compliance

        Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, or equivalent construction management experience

        Language Skills: Able to fluently speak and write in English

        Mathematical Skills: Strong analytical and mathematical skills in algebra and geometry

        Reasoning Ability: must have strong problem solving, analytical skills and reading comprehension and be able to deal with both standardized and non-standard situations with many variables

        Computer Skills: Proficiency in construction estimating software is preferred (e.g. Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff), but is not necessary. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly excel), Google Suite, search engine and search methods, and various meeting platforms

        Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interface and collaborate with a wide variety of people including clients, employees, managers, agencies, and the public

        Planning and Organizing: this position requires self-motivation, strong planning, organizing, and time management skills, the ability to create and follow a schedule and multiple activities

        Certificates, Licenses, and Registration: Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record

        Compensation:

        $32-38/hr, based on skills experience and knowledge
